Home Connections

We started our Home Reading Program on Wednesday and we are very excited to have

LES DEVOIRS!!

It’s one of the great things about this age group-they are thrilled to have work to do at home and there were no groans or complaints about receiving homework.

So here's how it works:

1 Every Wednesday, students will sit down in small groups with Madame and select a new book. The books will be small, easy leveled readers for all students to begin with. If you are feeling that the books are too difficult or too easy for your child, please let me know.

2 We will then have one-on-one reading time with Madame so that your child has at least read their book once with me and should have a grasp on the topic and sound blends that they will find in this book.

3 They will then bring home the book on Wednesday after school and will have the book for 5 days. It should be returned by the following Monday, and NO LATER THAN Tuesday, so that I am able to organize and track the books, and so that your child is able to take out another book on Wednesday.

4 Please read the book a few times with your child and have them read it once or twice by themselves. For now, their homework is just to practice sounding out words, finding familiar words, recognizing letters, noticing capitalization and punctuation and grasping the content of the story. Later on, there will be a small homework sheet to be completed with the book and you will find it in the small book bag.

5 Return the book by the following Monday and wait for the next book to be sent home. Voila! Very simple, non?
